Many AFCA coaches have accepted heightened responsibilities with JFI as “Ambassadors”. Our coach ambassadors work with JFI on such projects as Public Service Announcements, speaking engagements, and helping to introduce JFI programs and services on a local, regional or national basis. AFCA has been instrumental in helping build a national image of JFI and a national message of awareness and prevention of youth suicide. Visit our JFI/AFCA Ambassadors page here.
Arena Football League
The Arena Football League (AFL) and The Jason Foundation (JFI) have been affiliated since 2011. The Arena Football League became aware of JFI and knew immediately that we fit into their community first approach. It is for this reason that the AFL front-office, and more specifically former Commissioner Kurz, approached JFI at the 2011 AFCA Convention. They wanted to spread the awareness of the problem of youth suicide and JFI was just the avenue to do so. The scope of the affiliation has grown each and every year since 2011.
Public Service Announcements are aired on nationally televised games. Jason’s Week is celebrated once per year and each team promotes JFI and our mission. On-air personalities talk about the importance of our affiliation. Coaches and staff wear specially made lapel pins. Game day staff and cheerleaders throw out shirts to the crowd. The week-long event reaches thousands of people with our message of awareness and prevention. JFI even presents the Jason Foundation Community Service Award during the Arena Bowl Awards Ceremony. The Award is given to a team that has notably given back to the communities that support them.
Attorneys General State Program
The Jason Foundation’s long time effort of working with the State Attorneys General started back in 1999, beginning with General Paul Summers – Attorney General State of Tennessee. Through General Summer’s efforts, JFI was invited to present to the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) in March 2004 at their annual meeting. As a result of that presentation, NAAG passed a Resolution which encouraged all Attorneys General to become involved in youth suicide prevention and held up The Jason Foundation as such a model for involvement.
The Jason Foundation began the State Attorneys General Ambassador Program as a response to the 2004 NAAG Resolution. Today, the majority of State Attorneys General participate as JFI/State AG Program Ambassadors in their state. As an Ambassador, they help introduce JFI to state and private agencies to help build collaborative efforts in youth suicide awareness and prevention. Our AG Ambassadors also help in legislative efforts, public awareness efforts and through public service announcements. We are proud that The Jason Foundation’s Board of Directors has one current Attorney General and four former Attorneys General as members.
